Denoise a low-light micrograph with scikit-image: what each filter keeps

Afterwards you can denoise an image with scikit-image's Gaussian, median, total variation, and non-local means filters, and judge each by what it keeps.

Image analysis Biology, Physics

Concept Python Beginner 30 min

Convolution: how a small kernel blurs, sharpens, and finds edges

Afterwards you can say what a convolution does to an image, build blur, sharpen, and edge kernels, and predict what a kernel will do before you apply it.

Image analysis Cross-disciplinary

Recipe Python Beginner 10 min

Background subtraction: one threshold for every cell in a microscope image

Afterwards you can subtract an uneven background from a microscope image with a wide Gaussian filter or a top-hat, and check that cells keep their brightness.
